Geography

Basically, Haryana is a plain situated between Shivalik Hills touching Haryana from the north and Aravalli Hills touching it from the south. The major part of Haryana is a plain.

The total area of Haryana is 44,412 Sq. Kms.
Its location is Altitude 270 39’ to 300 55’ 5’’ North and Longitude 740 27’ 8’’ to 770 36’ 5’’ East.
Haryana is surrounded by Himachal Pradesh in the north of it, U. P. & Delhi in the east Punjab in the west and rajasthan in the south. 

Haryana can be divided into four geographical parts:

1) Shivalik Hills
2) Plain Area
3) Desert 
4) Aravalli Hills


1) Shivalik Hills: Shivalik Hills touch Haryana from the north-east side. The height is between 900 and 2300 meters from sea level. This area is the origin of rivers like Ghaghar, Tangri, Markanda and Saraswati.

2) Plain Area: Plains cover the major part of Haryana. It is spread from the northern part to the southern part. It covers the districts like Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Jind, Rohtak, Sonipat & Panipat.

3) Desert: The part of Haryana adjacent to Rajasthan comes in it. This area is a dry area with less rain. It covers Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Bhiwani and Mahendragarh.

4) Aravalli Hills: Aravalli Hills touch Haryana from the south. It covers the districts like Mewat and Faridabad. This is a dry hilly area adjacent to Rajasthan.
